ORGANIZATION:
The organization of the Department of Histology and Embryology is strictly related to both scientific and teaching activity.

SCIENCE:
Two research units are included in the Department:

·         histology unit (head: Prof. Ryszard Wiaderkiewicz, PhD, DSc) is currently in possession of four laboratories to carry out the following procedures; biochemical studies, analysis of proteins and nucleic acids, maintaining cell cultures, digital morphometric analysis of microscopic images

·         cytophysiology unit (head: Piotr Czekaj, PhD, DSc) has 3 well equipped laboratories: immunohistochemical, histochemical and morphological (microanatomical with confocal microscope).

Histology Unit

       The current molecular and structural studies concern the following topics:

·        Analysis of  rat hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis in the context of its pharmacomodulation with GnRH analogs

·         Effects on neuroleptics on regulatory neuropeptides expression in the rat brain

·         Neurobiochemical aspects of antidepressants action under condition of EM-field exposure

·         Pharmacomodulation of adult neurogenesis with a special attention to non canonical sites such as hypothalamus

MORHOLOGICAL ASPECTS IN DIAGNOSTICS OF BREAST DISEASES (optional lectures; IV^th and V^th Year, Medical Faculty) -  supervised by Artur Pałasz, PhD
